Real-time transit times at borders – now for PTV xServer on-premise

We now offer you the possibility to use real-time data of the start-up Sixfold GmbH on your own PTV xServer on premise.
This gives you an overview of all relevant border crossing times for trucks in real time and allows you to use them for visualization and routing in our PTV xServer. This function helps dispatchers understand the extended transit times for border crossings and even automatically avoid crowded border crossings.

How to use the Feature Layer containing the Sixfold data about transit times at borders?

The Border Transit Times are included in the PTV Traffic Incidents Feature Layer available for the PTV World City Map 2020.2H and PTV Europe City Map 2020.2H. The Border Transit Times are usable with PTV xServer API Version 2.

Configuration for on-premise solutions:
The request configuration for API Version 2 is the same as for cloud solutions. For more details see the previous post.
In order to use the Feature Layer PTV_TrafficIncidents you need to activate the download via Content Update service (CUS).
The information about transit times and closed borders are included in the PTVSixfold feed. If you configure provider name “tomtom, ptvsixfold” you get both the incidents feed from TomTom and the PTVSixfold incidents containing the border transit times and closing information.

PTV xServer API Version 2 configuration (xserver.conf) with CUS 2.x:

contentupdates {
  ...
  content {
          featureLayer {
                       enabled = true
                       themes = [ "PTV_TrafficIncidents" ]
                       providerNames = [ "tomtom","ptvsixfold"]
                       countries = [ ]
                       }
           }
}

How to get rid of the data?
For on-premise solutions you have to stop Content Update Service form downloading the PTV_TrafficIncidents and delete the layer manually form your hard drive.
For cloud solutions you just have to stop using PTV_TrafficIncidents in your request.

Important information about quality and availability
This started as an impromptu project at Sixfold because they “want to do good”. Sixfold have refrained for now to put a license on the data, because they want to focus their efforts on helping and not commercializing this.
Therefore the use of the data in our PTV Traffic Incidents is for free. Sixfold and we at PTV did develop this at a pretty rapid pace, therefore please do not expect 100% uptime, reliability, stability etc.
However, the border transit time information and the border blocking information has not a 100% coverage, we decided to integrate the Sixfold data because it best reflects the current situation.

Update on Layer Delivery Service (LDS) for PTV Content Update Service

featurelayerThe new release of the Layer Delivery Service (LDS) replaces the previous version creating the Feature Layer Traffic Incidents. Normally the LDS supply the Feature Layer into the products automatically, but with the update there is something to take care of:

Please restart your Content Update Service (CUS) to refresh the connection and get the newest layers from the new LDS. For all Content Update Service versions, this has to be done manually.

For your information we have recently released the CUS Version 2.8.0.
This is now fully featured to supply Toll Updates and Feature Layer Traffic Incidents. The CUS Version 2.8 can also be used with PTV xServer API Version 1 when using the PTV CUS xServer1 Adapter.

The PTV Content Update Service 2.8 and the respective PTV CUS xServer1 Adapter can be downloaded from the customer area of the PTV Developer Zone (login required).

For any further information or support please contact the Support Team.
