Update on Layer Delivery Service (LDS) for PTV Content Update Service

featurelayerThe new release of the Layer Delivery Service (LDS) replaces the previous version delivering the Feature Layer Traffic Incidents and Toll updates. The LDS supplys this data via Content Update Service (CUS) into the products automatically. But with the update there is something to take care of:

Please check your Content Update Service (CUS) version. If you use CUS 1.24.0.4 or 2.8 and later there ist nothing to do.
Otherwise please update you CUS to 1.24.0.4 or 2.8 and later.
From this versions on the connection to the LDS will be automatically refreshed.

For all older CUS versions, the CUS has to be restarted manually to refresh the connection to LDS. This has to be done with every LDS update and should only be used as a short term solution until the update to the newer CUS version is done.

The old version of LDS will be disabled on Thursday September 30th 2021. All content update service instances need to be updated or restarted until then or do no longer get Feature Layer Traffic incidents updates.

The CUS Version 2.8 can also be used with PTV xServer API Version 1 when using the PTV CUS xServer1 Adapter.

The PTV Content Update Service 2.8 and the respective PTV CUS xServer1 Adapter can be downloaded from the customer area of the PTV Developer Zone (login required).

Discontinuation of Feature Layer General Truck Restrictions

We like to inform you about a change in our PTV World- and Europe City Map 2021.2H and 2021.2T.
We do no longer deliver the General Truck Restriction data. Therefore, we do no longer include the PTV General Truck Restrictions feature layer in the map delivery.

The General Truck Restrictions did include country wide weekend and holiday truck bans for the following countries:

  • Austria
  • Germany
  • Switzerland
  • Italy
  • France
  • Liechtenstein
  • Poland
  • Luxembourg

The PTV General Truck Restriction data should not be mixed up with the PTV Truck Attributes. The PTV Truck Attributes contain physical or time-dependent restrictions for individual roads, this data will remain in our scope of delivery.

We discontinue the delivery of this FL General Tuck Restriction, because it was only used by very few customers. The reason for that is that the routing did not use the data in the desired way. Trucks did wait on borders when Sunday driving restrictions applied instead of driving possible and logical detours.

On Premise customers who update to this PTV World- and Europe City Map 2021.2H and 2021.2T need to exclude the PTV General Truck Restrictions form their routing and rendering request. Otherwise, the requests will fail, because of missing Feature Layer data.

For PTV xServer internet we have a transition phase.
In a first step we do deliver an empty FL General Truck Restrictions (FL GTR) in the update to PTV World- and Europe City Map 2021.2H and 2021.2T. Updates are planned starting from End of March 2021 like communicated via mail and PTV Developer Blog.

That has the following effect on routing and rendering:

  • Customers who do routing in Europe with activated FL GTR will see a change in the results, because there is no data in the empty layer.
  • The weekend and holiday truck bans do not occur anymore.
  • Customers who do display FL GTR will not see the general truck restriction data because the layer is empty.
  • Only the base map and other requested FL data will be displayed.

In a second step we exclude the PTV General Truck Restrictions from the update to PTV World- and Europe City Map 2022.1H and 2022.1T. Planned from September/October 2021 on. For update dates on PTV xServer internet please subscribe for our PTV Developer Blog.

That has the following effect:

  • Customers who do routing or rendering with activated PTV General Truck Restrictions will get failed requests, because the Feature Layer is not present in the map.

How to fix this:

  • Customers need to exclude PTV General Truck Restrictions form their routing and rendering requests.
  • This can be done any time before the update to PTV World- and Europe City Map 2022.1H planned for September/October 2021.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this change in data delivery may cause you. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Real-time information on transit times at border crossings

To contain the corona virus, many states have reintroduced border controls or closed borders completely.
This resulted in long queues and long transit times at the borders during the week of 16-22.03.2020, which also led to long transit times. As of today, the situation has improved again, but should be closely monitored.

Therefore we have joined forces with our customers and partners to find solutions to reduce the uncertainty caused by the long transit times at borders.

We now offer you the possibility to use real-time data of the start-up Sixfold GmbH on our cloud Solution PTV xServer internet. This gives you an overview of all relevant border crossing times for trucks in real time and allows you to use them for visualization and routing in our PTV xServer. This function helps dispatchers understand the extended transit times for border crossings and even automatically avoid crowded border crossings.

How to use the Feature Layer containing the Sixfold data about transit times at borders?

The Border Transit Times are included in the PTV Traffic Incidents Feature Layer available for the PTV World City Map 2020.2H with API version 2 on PTV xServer internet. On-premise solutions with PTV World City Map 2020.2H and PTV Europe City Map 2020.2H will get the updated PTV Traffic Incidents by end of next week April, 16th 2020.
You can recognize the transit times by the square-icon, these show a truck and a clock placed above it. Transit times are only available on motorways and main roads in Europe with enough recent data to display estimates.
To avoid detours around transit times, non-passable border crossings for >7.49t will be blocked in PTV Traffic Incidents from now on.
For use cases such as strategic planning, you can use PTV Traffic Incidents and a time span of one week. This takes into account the information of the closed border crossings, but ignore the transit times at the borders.

Even the border transit time information and the border blocking information has not a 100% coverage it improves the PTV xServer use cases with PTV Traffic Incidents a lot.
The closed / blocked border information for trucks >7.49t collected by PTV is only available on the marked points shown in this map on the right.

Configuration for cloud solutions:

  • Activate the Feature Layer Theme PTV_TrafficIncidents in your PTV xMap and PTV xRoute service request.
  • To calculate a route with the border transit times in PTV xRoute service you need to set additionally the time consideration and plan your route.
  • It is also possible to deactivate / activate the transit times and blocked borders separately (default is activated). Therefore you can deactivate / activate the layers in the country specific parameters. The transit times with rule id “ptvTIx_AS_42” and border blockings with rule id “ptvTIx_AS_53”.
  • For strategic planning, you can use PTV_TrafficIncidents and a time span of one week. This takes into account the information of the closed border crossings, but ignore the transit times at the borders.

Important information about quality and availability
This started as an impromptu project at Sixfold because they “want to do good”. Sixfold have refrained for now to put a license on the data, because they want to focus their efforts on helping and not commercializing this.
Therefore the use of the data in our PTV Traffic Incidents is for free. Sixfold and we at PTV did develop this at a pretty rapid pace, therefore please do not expect 100% uptime, reliability, stability etc.
However, the border transit time information and the border blocking information has not a 100% coverage, we decided to integrate the Sixfold data because it best reflects the current situation.

Discontinuation notice for PTV Mapserver and PTV xServer add-on PTV Feature Layer (FL) “PTV_TruckWaitingTimes”

From May 05, 2020, PTV will no longer provide updates or support for PTV Feature Layer (FL) “PTV_TruckWaitingTimes” (for all versions) used by PTV xServer.

The reason for this discontinuation notice is that the data providers stopped any data support. Therefore, PTV cannot keep the services up and running.

In accordance with PTV Group’s product discontinuation policy, we are providing you notice of this phase-out so that you have adequate time to replace the solutions via updating to the latest software versions available.

PTV Group is committed to providing the highest level of quality and service to you. Based on your requests, we constantly enhance our software and keep integrating new and improved functions and contents. Therefore, we strongly advise you to partake in our maintenance contract, as it integrates extended functions and ensures their systems always remain up-to-date – a basic prerequisite for their day-to-day operations.

To meet the growing requirements, PTV Group, like other software providers, needs to limit the number of software versions available. This way, we can always make sure that our resources stay focused on further improving PTV xServer, PTV xServer add-ons and PTV Maps as the current software solutions create the perfect conditions for your business applications to excel.

Update on Layer Delivery Service (LDS) for PTV Content Update Service

featurelayerThe new release of the Layer Delivery Service (LDS) replaces the previous version creating the Feature Layer Traffic Incidents. Normally the LDS supply the Feature Layer into the products automatically, but with the update there is something to take care of:

Please restart your Content Update Service (CUS) to refresh the connection and get the newest layers from the new LDS. For all Content Update Service versions, this has to be done manually.

For your information we have recently released the CUS Version 2.8.0.
This is now fully featured to supply Toll Updates and Feature Layer Traffic Incidents.

For any further information or support please contact the Support Team.

TIS Update 2.9 & Improvements

From now the TIS 2.9 will get new data regarding Dynamic Traffic Information in the Logistics products. While Traffic Patterns cover the historical situation during the day and the week, Dynamic Traffic Information considers the live road conditions. Real time changes in estimated travel times and the calculation of alternative routes are enabled.

Improvement

  • Reduction of data amount for WFS requests to provide better stability
