Control your turns

In some use cases, truck drivers and deliverers prefer turns on the passenger side during the route. Even if this results in a small detour, it can reduce waiting times and enhance safety. Now you have the possibility to control such a behavior (see the right route below using the new feature).

Have a look at the new version of the PTV Developer Routing API V1.5.0 and start with the concept Turn Restrictions describing the new attribute ‘preferTurnsOnPassengerSide’.

Time for a break

Driving time regulations are crucial for vehicle drivers. They define a set of rules for break and rest periods as well as for travel limits to improve road safety and ensure good working conditions. And the corresponding laws could be different in different countries!

In the new version of the PTV Developer Routing API V1.5.0 we now offer the long-awaited consideration of driver’s working hours for EU and USA including service times and opening intervals.

More details to this topic are available in the corresponding concept Driving Time Regulations. Please note that the service times and especially the opening intervals at every waypoint could be too much information for a GET method. So we added to our API the new POST method ‘calculateRoutePost’ for this feature. Of course, all other features from the presently GET method ‘calculateRoute’ are included.

Crossing the street? Not necessarily…

In some use cases, the driver shall not cross the street to reach the destination for delivery or pickup, e.g. for safety reasons. Therefore, it is now possible to start or arrive on the same side of the road as the route location, even if this results in a small detour (see the right route below using the new feature).

Check it out in the new version of the PTV Developer Routing API V1.4.0 and start with the concept Waypoints describing the new attribute ‘matchSideOfStreet’.

How to build a simple routing app

One of the first things you can do with our RESTful APIs is to implement a simple routing app: Enter two addresses, find the optimal route between these addresses and display the result on a map. In doing so you get a first impression how easy the APIs of PTV Developer could be used and what else is possible.

The new tutorial A-B Routing shows all the implementation steps, provides the complete source code and the running app for demonstration purposes. That takes just a few minutes of your time!
